Carpentry, Drywall & Plaster Repair in NYC & Long Island

Doors that do not close, damaged walls and unfinished trim can make a room feel incomplete. Dr. Handyman Inc. handles carpentry, drywall and plaster projects for homes, apartments and commercial properties in New York City and Long Island. We discuss both the repair and the final finish so you know where the work stops.

What the work can include

Doors, trim & interior carpentry

Door adjustments, casing, baseboards, shelving and other wood details need to suit the existing room. Share dimensions and close-up photos of joints, hardware and damaged sections.

Drywall repairs & installation

A small impact hole, a large opening and a rebuilt wall require different backing, board and finishing work. The size and location of the damage help define the repair approach.

Plaster & finish preparation

Older plaster may crack, loosen or meet newer materials. Recurring damage should be reviewed before patching, and the surrounding texture affects how far finishing needs to extend.

Before the work begins

Explain what caused the damage if you know. A wall that was opened for another repair should only be closed once the work behind it is complete and ready to cover. Dampness or movement can cause a patch to fail again if the underlying condition remains. Tell us whether the desired result is a patched surface, paint-ready finish or a fully repainted wall; those are different scopes.

What affects the estimate?

The amount of backing or rebuilding, access, existing material, texture matching and paint blending all affect cost. Small wall work can still involve multiple stages as materials set between applications. Door and trim estimates depend on sizes, material matching, hardware and whether the opening is square. Photos help start the discussion, but hidden conditions may need an on-site review.

What to send with your request

  • Wide and close-up photos with a size reference
  • Cause and age of the damage, if known
  • Door sizes, trim profiles or shelving dimensions
  • Whether painting and finish matching should be included

Questions about carpentry, drywall & plaster

Is drywall repair the same as plaster repair?

No. The existing wall material and condition affect the repair method and preparation. Clear photos and the age of the property help start the review.

Will a patched wall need to be painted?

A patch usually needs finish paint. Depending on color, sheen and texture, repainting a larger surface can help the repair blend.

Can you adjust a sticking interior door?

Door adjustment projects can be discussed. Photos of the door, frame, hinges and the area where it rubs help identify what needs review.

Planning your next step

Start with a clear description of the work, rather than trying to diagnose every hidden condition yourself. Share the property location and photos, then identify which items matter most. We can discuss whether a site review or more information is needed before an estimate is prepared.
